The HeadMouse is an optical pointer designed to provide full mouse control of computers for people without use of their hands, but who have good head control. The HeadMouse headset uses the user's head movements to exactly imitate the movements of a desktop mouse. An ultrasound signal, transmitted from a small box on top of the computer monitor, is detected by three sensors located on the user headset. The sensors measure the relative strength of the ultrasound signal and determine the physical tilt of the user's head. This information is converted into the same electrical signals generated by the standard desktop mouse. Selections are made by positioning the mouse pointer and dwelling for a selectable period. Dragger (see entry) software provides efficient dwell-based access to the common functions of a two-button mouse. A switch (not included) can also be used to operate the primary mouse buttons. Standard HeadMouse models plug directly into the computer mouse port, so no special software is necessary.
SofType On-screen Keyboard software is included in this bundle.
